Dear All the DNYS passouts, aspirants and students, (Reference is to India) Your Diploma in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (DNYS) course is invalid. DNYS course is not approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (Govt of India) till this date. So your DNYS Diploma is also invalid. If you have a Diploma from a UGC recognised University, then your Diploma is a valid academic qualification but not a valid medical qualification. (It may be useful as paramedical). Same is the case with BSc (Naturopathy and Yogic Science). Only BNYS degree (regular) approved by Central Council of Indian Medicines (Now the rights may be with Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy) is approved and only they can use the prefix 'Dr" before their name. The same can be said of BSc (Naturopathy and Yoga) and B.Nat. Only full time 5 years BNYS degree is valid as a medical degree. All others and distance courses are not valid medical degrees but are only valid academic degrees. For more details, continue reading...
Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy
NOTICE
This Council is receiving a number of questions, complaints and RTI
applications from students and parents that they are being cheated by
some of the organizations offering courses claiming to be Recognized
Diploma Courses in Naturopathy of 1 year to 3½ years duration namely –
N.D., D.N.Y.S., D.N.Y.T., H.D.N.Y., N.D.D.Y., D.A.MS., B.N.M.S. etc.
This is to inform to all concerned that about 300 such parties/
so-called organizations are claiming that they are running/conducting
recognized Diploma Courses in Naturopathy. Some of them are even using
the word
“Recognized/Approved/Authenticated/Granted/Authorized/Affiliated etc. by
CCRYN, Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare”. It is
clarified to all students and parents that there is no such Recognized
Diploma Courses in Naturopathy and Yoga being run anywhere in India. The
students and the public are advised not to get misguided by such type
of false advertisements/claims.
There is only one Recognized ‘Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic
Sciences’ (BNYS) Degree course of full time/regular 5½ years (4 ½ years +
1 Year Internship) duration which is being run by 12 Colleges duly
Affiliated to the respective Universities and Recognized by their
respective State Governments. The list of these colleges is already
uploaded in CCRYN Website (www.ccryn.org).
All Medical Courses of Naturopathy & Yoga Therapy are of minimum
5 years of Regular Full time course attached with a major hospital of
100 Beds strength. The hospital should be duly affiliated to the reputed
Universities and Recognized by their respective State Governments.
Courses less than 5 or 5 ½ years shall not be considered as medical
courses in Naturopathy and Yoga and they can’t prefix word ‘Doctor’.
Naturopathy is a practical and perfect medical science. It cannot be
learnt through part time or postal or external courses. Those who are
interested in Naturopathy and Yoga should join full-time BNYS Degree
Course as like MBBS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, BSMS, BPT, BDS. After passing out
from recognised institutions and colleges, the Degree of BNYS is
awarded by the Concerned University. Such qualified Naturopaths do
receive Class ‘A’ Medical Registration in Naturopathy & Yoga by
their respective State Govt.’s Board of Medical Registration.
It has also been brought to the notice of Council that some
organizations are issuing registration certificates to practitioners of
Yoga & Naturopathy saying that such certificates will enable them
practice these disciplines. It is clarified that such registration
certificates issued by private organizations are of no legal value for
practicing these sciences. In States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,
Tamil Nadu, M.P. and Chhattisgarh, the Governments have recognized
Degree Colleges of BNYS and qualified practitioners are issued
Registration Certificates by respective Boards of Indian System of
Medicine constituted under Acts of respective States. In some states,
provisions for registration are yet to come up. Public is hereby advised
that they should not be mislead by advertisements issued by private
organization in regard to registration and practice.
It is also observed that some institutions claiming to be affiliated
institutions of Certain Deemed Universities are issuing advertisements
for Yoga & Naturopathy Degree/Diploma Courses/Master Degree.
It is clarified that except 12 Colleges, rest of the Courses
conducted by such institutions, Deemed Universities and Regular
Universities cannot be treated as recognized professional courses in the
Medical Systems of Naturopathy & Yoga Therapy as Doctor Course. (Prof. Dr. B.T. Chidananda Murthy)

Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), New Delhi is Not a Recognised institution or university. It is a private, autonomous institution. It cannot confer or grant any degree as per UGC Act.
However, the IIPM has right to continue because as per Article 19 (g) of the Constitution of India, people can carry out any appropriate trade or profession or business as a matter of freedom. But such institution cannot ask for recognition as a matter of right. The most they can do is to confer a Certificate or Diploma; but not a Degree. Moreover, the recognition of such Certificate / Diploma depends on the other institution or University or employer if they will accept it or not. However, in any case they cannot confer a Degree. They only have an option to get affiliation from a University to conduct classes for degree examination. But such examination and degree must be held/conferred by a University only.
For any clarification, add a comment here or directly refer to the UGC website.

EIILM University gets final warning in the case of providing distance education outside its jurisdiction. In many cases, the university is almost selling its degrees. The UGC has taken a serious view of the complete violation of UGC (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulations, 2003 by the EIILM University. The University is hereby directed to:- 1. Conduct courses in regular mode only at the main campus of the University with the prior approval of Statutory Council(s), wherever required. The list of the degrees specified by the UGC under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 is available on the UGC website www.uqc.ac.in. 2. Immediately discontinue all the courses run under distance mode in the country and abroad as these courses are run without the approval of UGC and DEC. 3. Courses under distance mode can be conducted only after prior approval of UGC. 4. Immediately close down all the ‘Admission-cum-Counselling Centres’ which are admitting students for courses run under distance mode. 5. Immediately close down all the off-campus centre(s), off-shore campus centre(s), Study Centre(s) and Franchisee Centre(s) as these are established without the approval of UGC. Failing to comply with the above directions, the UGC may take action against the EIILM University as per the provisions of the UGC Act and UGC (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulations, 2003. The University is requested to submit a compliance report in respect of the above on urgent basis. Information Source: UGC
Questions like: “Are the programmes which are unique to
IGNOU considered valid by other universities? Can I take admission at
IGNOU in spite of myself being registered with any other university?”
and some more detailed personalized questions are now compiled in a
booklet and an e-booklet on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Open
and Distance Learning (ODL) system of the Indira Gandhi National Open
University (IGNOU).
The FAQ e-book is uploaded on the University’s website www.ignou.ac.in under the ‘Student Zone’ tab at the home page.
It is observed that the learners including the prospective as well as
the alumni, guardians, teachers and several other stakeholders had many
misgivings regarding the norms and procedures, rules and regulations
followed in the University. In this regard, this booklet is going to be a
very useful compilation as it would act as a ready reference material
for all the full-time and part-time functionaries of IGNOU spread over
Headquarters, Regional Centres and the Study Centres.
The book is prepared under the concept and guidance of Dr. C. K.
Ghosh, the then Director, National Centre for Innovations in Distance
Education (NCIDE), IGNOU, who recollects his initiative of preparing a
collection of queries by curious IGNOU students. “I used to find many
learners, guardians, teachers and other stakeholders coming to the
Students Service Centre with multiple queries related to registration,
evaluation, material distribution and various other facets of learner
support. We found that they were not aware of the rules, regulations and
norms of the University which was the root cause of their problems,”
explains Dr. Ghosh.
The booklet contains questions faced by the university’s
functionaries spread all over the country along with the answers. “We
have directly picked up questions sent by the learners facing
problems…by and large maintaining the same language of the queries as
sent by students.”
There are ten chapters in the booklet. Chapters 1 to 8 have been
categorized based on various issues like registration, evaluation,
recognition, projects, practicals, assignments, etc. The chapter 9
consists of inter alia selected actual and representative case studies.
“Several academic programmes are on offer at IGNOU which do not have
parallel in the conventional system and the learners have many queries
regarding them. We have listed those in Chapter 9 which we have received
from time to time. Chapter 10 is on ODL-Quiz which contains 60 Multiple
Choice Type questions with answers which are targeted towards testing
the knowledge of the reader about the ODL System of IGNOU and it also
generates awareness about the same,” mentions the booklet preparation
team.
The answers are valid as on the date of publication of this booklet.
An electronic version of this booklet is uploaded on the IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in where necessary updating will be done from time to time.
