Special education means the education of children with disability like Mentally Retarded, Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired, Cerebral Palsy etc. But now-a-days, a more suitable and respectable word for disabled children is "Differently Abled".

B.Ed. (Special Education) or B.Sp.Ed is a graduate degree in Education to teach special children.

Similarly, there are M.Ed. (Special Education) or M.Sp.Ed., a post graduate degree in the same field and various other PG Diploma and Certificate courses.

Now-a-days, we have inclusive or integrated schools where special and normal students study together. (Earlier there were separate school called General Schools and Special School)

Green Teacher - A New Term

The new term Green Teacher is used for environmental educators. Earlier environmental educators only provided theoretical knowledge about environment. But a green teacher is expected to do further more. That is, they have to take up practical measures for the betterment of environment. They will not only teach that use of plastic is bad for environment, but themselves also will stop the use of plastic. Just giving a lecture on the importance of tree in controlling climate change and taking up a project to grow 100 trees in the school/college/roadside and then taking care of those tree, are both different things. The later is expected from the Green Teacher.

If you are interested in getting a Diploma in Environmental Education (also called Green Teacher Diploma) offered through Distance Education / Online, please visit http://www.greenteacher.org
This course is recognised by the Govt of India and The Commonwealth of Learning.

Tips for Developing Reading Habits among Children

Researches prove that children who read for about 20 minutes daily score better in their school tests.
Reading does not mean reading only the textbooks. It includes various studying material like newspaper, novels, comics, webs, etc.
It is very essential that parents develop the reading habit of their children right from their infancy.
First of all parents must themselves spend a substantial time reading. If children see their parents reading daily, they understand that reading is not just a part of school curriculum, but is a part of our lifestyle.
Time for T.V. and video games must be reduced and controlled. So that you get time for reading.
All members of the family should get together for reading. If the child in at elementary level, reading aloud also should be encouraged.
Parents should read stories to their children.
Children should be asked to read stories to the parents or younger siblings.
Various books must be readily available in all the rooms of the house.
Get a library membership for all the members of the family.
There are many other ways to promote reading habits.
